International Quilt Day

Today I travelled to Renmark together with approx 159 others to be part of
International Quilt Day 2009

The Theme for the Day was teapots
each table had a beautiful old teapot in the middle enhanced with Australian Flowers,
on arrive we all received a goodies bag, enclosed was a lovely pincushion in the shape of a teapot (sorry no photos) and local products , Almonds, Orange juice and local information of the area and surrounding towns.
Morning tea
with the most delicious
assorted Greek sweets and Pastries
First guest speaker was a charming Lady
Dianne Wood speaking about history of buttons and sharing her Vintage Button Collection
The next guest Speaker Alieen Pitman
shared her memories of collecting teapots over the last 30 years
Alieen's collection at the moment is 300 and counting

Notice this one is shaped like a sewing machine

Lunch was catered for by the local Greek Committee
Lamb Yiros, Marinated Chicken, Greek Salads, Garlic Sauce, Pita Bread and fruit platters.
Lots of socialising and retail therapy.
The afternoon Guest speaker was
Navy Commander Liz Frost
spoke of her quilting experiences while being in the forces
and her encounters while being posted to Iraq for six months .
Throughout the day included
Demonstrations ......... Machine Quilting, Doll Making, Brazillian and Machine Embroidery
and lots of Show and Tell
The Day finish with yet another
beautiful spread on assorted Cakes and Slices.
So there are no more photos but Mollie(my camera) batteries went flat.

HI Marc,
what a fun way to spend a day- I love the vintage buttons and teapots. I have a few teapots - a couple seasonal ones for Christmas and pottery ones but I have never seen a sewing machine one- it is way cool ( I think that is what my kids might say) I hope you found some interesting things for yourself too in the " retail therapy booths".
Hope all is well,
Regards,
Anna

Hi there Daisy Jayne,
I'm so glad you had a great day at the International Quilt Day in Renmark. Did you visit for the day or are you from the area.

I too had a great day but very busy on my part.
Your blog looks great and so many links - well done.
