Sweet little grandson is One today, so there is no sewing happening here today, but I did find the time yesterday to start a small quilt with a charm pack of Bliss fabric.

So spent Saturday .... cleaning up my sewing room and found a lost friend,

Bugsy, help me yesterday and today finish off a couple of small items.

finished the embroidery on this small bag and sew together.

then started another bit of embroidery

Thought I might watch the tennis last night ............ but I just could not stand the chicks and there grunting............ so spent some time in the sewing room to finish off the embroidery and make a bag

with a little help from bugsy

this morning spend, quality time with the in -laws

then after lunch watched a DVD in my sewing room, where once again bugsy kept me company,while a made a another small bag.

As it is still quite warm here in the Riverland with a few light showers of rain which has not help with humidity ........ still there are still a few things life I do not have a say in ..... (the Weather) ...chuckle

Not a good start to the week

Woke up this morning at approx 5.40am to the sound of sirens, a blaze started in a steel fabrication factory approx 800 metres from home, the fire spreading to a neighbouring outdoor timber furniture business.

The fire generated large amounts of smoke as it burned treated pine at the timber furniture business.
The Old Sturt Highway was closed for several hours while firefighters battle the blaze. Traffic was detoured making it a slow drive to work this morning, (this was the least of my problems) so while I was waiting in the queue, one of the employees, stop and had a chat , still in shock asked me the following ....arsonists ***** why do they do it?
I now don't have a job................the grieve in his voice was heart breaking.

The weather is great

Has been awhile since the last post............ back to work after a few days off over the Christmas and New Year period , Of course the fairies did not do my work for me while I was not there so catch up seems to take most of my day time work, plus a bit of ill health has not helped with the mo jo.

I did last weekend get a few blocks for my Some Kind of Wonderful quilt. Now I am organised to do some hand stitching of an evening in the coming week (chuckle).

The weather has been great to me today, spent this morning doing the home duties, then after lunch I started some embroidery, have a few gifts to catch up on.

DH is watching the Cricket so I going another room to watch a DVD and do some hand stitching

Saturday afternoon saw DH and I hang some prints that have been ordered 9 months ago and finally arrived yesterday morning DH and I went over to a surrounding town and collected them.

What a hoot............we giggled and carry on so much........ DH thought he knew best and I thought I would have the last say.............but eventually the prints did find their way to the wall.....

The wall started off so blank and lonely

Unfortunately the photos have a bit of refection when I snapped them for show and tell

DH is watching golf on TV ....... I not a golf fan so I will ........ sew the binding down on a quilt and keep him company

Rain and yes more rain

Saturday morning, started off with the lovely sound of rain pelting down the roof, therefore the day was not going to be promising for the washing so, enjoyed a nice breakfast early with DH.

then headed off to the local library to pick up a few books I had on the reverse list.....

but silly me got there at 9am and the library did not open till 9.30, so took a few photos of the rain

picked up my books....... got home just in time to received a phone call from a another shop from another town, that my pictures had arrived ( I had ordered over 9 months ago)...... so headed off to another surrounding town............... but due to a fatal accident, DH and I along with many other road users............ where redirected............. I hate that gut feeling you get when you hear .... the word fatal.

Spent the rest of the day, reading, cooking and putting the new pictures on a blank wall

Had a late one last night ............started this book on my way down to Adelaide (DH was driving) and read a bit more on the way home.................needed to now what happens so had to finish it

Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch together take on a seemingly unwinnable case in Michael Connelly's latest blistering bestseller

Hopefully this weekend to start on these lovely fabrics from Hetties, not sure what pattern I am going to use

but I remember on Monday when I walked into Hetties I could hear these fabrics calling buy me buy me

Had Monday off from Work, headed off to Adelaide for an appointment. Left early in the morning so had to stop at Munno Para for a break (chuckle)..... of course what does one need to do... but call into spotlights...
Great day for a stop at Spotlight was a SALE ....... 30% off all stock on hand........... gathered a few things

Wadding... Quilting pins.... Cotton..... Blades and a nice fabric pack

Had to wait for 45 minutes to get served as I was not the only one getting bargains

While waiting you get to meet so many nice people in the queue and have chats

One of the customers have (2) trolleys full of bolt fabric a couple of us in the queue counted 36 bolts of fabric to be cut,,,,,,,,the lady was only buying a metre or two from each roll of fabric

a few customers left leaving there goods on the floor ...... lucky for me and another lady we where lucky enough to get their tickets to get served a little faster............. 45 minutes was long enough

I was also lucky that I was not running late to get to my appointment

later that day before heading home called into Hettie ........just love that shop

and the lovely ladies in the shop just make you feel so special (will have a show and tell next post)on my purchase at Hetties

The last few days

After work Friday night called into the local library and picked up a kindle to read,

got a bit hooked and read 80% of a book Friday night.

Saturday up early, head down bum up got stuck into the domestic things, it reached approx 36degrees in the Riverland so the washing did not take long to dry and the ironing was done before lunchtime.

spent Saturday afternoon in my ~~room~~ space in the home

Clean up a cupboard in the room and came across some fabric I have had for several years,I am sure you could all share that feeling (chuckle)

One of the items was a honey bum roll

one and a half inch strips

and a roll of Christmas Fabrics ............ cannot remember how long along I purchased the roll of Christmas fabric????

So quick and easy sewing the pre cut strips together, but

unfortunately in the Riverland we do not have a quilt shop as such,

so I will have to wait until the next trip to Adelaide to match a fabric to put round the squares and a another fabric to use for borders.

The fabric is a fig tree line, so I am not holding my breathe to find a shop with the range of fabric still in store so will have to match fabrics as close as possible.

DH had to work late on a community event in the Riverland and did not get home until after 10pm so while I was HOME ALONE I finished my book on the Kindle and started another one.

Then had a late evening meal with DH when he got home, he was a bit tired, I sat up and watch a late night movie before retiring

Sunday saw another early start, cooked DH breakfast, then he went to his Sister's to help move some furniture out of storage into her new home.

I cut the roll of Christmas fabric

into tumbler shapes

it is such a beautiful day in the Riverland today, DH got home mid afternoon, and we spent the day, chatting and relaxing outside.

hopefully I will have time next weekend to sew the tumbler Christmas fabric together

Have not quite been myself lately, took Thursday and Friday off from work, spent most of those two days, doing a bit of studies and as per the last few blog entries catching up on some off my tops needing binding.. Not been a good sleeper the last few months, so up again early this morning, DH has been a gem and cooked a nice breakfast, while I got a few loads of washing done.
Had my very own airing of the quilts today........... these four quilts are in the family room, it is such a nice day here gave them a nice wash and airing ( exposure to the air ) reference the Thesaurus.

Note in this picture the right hand side has captured the other quilt behind it.

Now it off to do the ironing and a few more things around the house done

Where has today gone........

Had a sleep in this morning until 6.30am, bit of rain for just a few minutes I love the sound of rain in the morning on the roof and then got stuck into a bit of domestic things around the house, while DH made eggs and bacon for breakfast, got a early start to the shops, purchased a new printer, as the old one had trouble remembering how to work.

Had the dear grandson for awhile mid afternoon, 8 months old today and has just learnt to shuffle along the floor, forgot how tiring little ones can be............ had to have a grandma nap after he left.

Started the binding on another quilt tonight, while watching a movie, on the local TV channel.

Have two quilts at the wonderful Liz’s for her do her magic on, hope to get them back next week and if my studies and work committments are up to date hope to get the binding on them within the next couple of weeks (will not be holding my breath), so much happening in the next few weeks at work.

Reference last post............ 6 tops sent off for Liz in Loxton to embellish, now have 4 back, today spent the day cutting and sewing the binding on them this morning ...... then this afternoon watched 4 DVD's while I finished sewing the binding down on one. Felt great to have needle and thread in hand. has been awhile.

If all goes well .......... might start another one later this evening.

Has been awhile since the last blog entry, no excuses............... but between, working, studies and family.............. have not found the time (more like the energy) to do any quilting, but two weeks ago had to move a few things around in the quilting room, and found 6 tops ready for the quilting, sent two tops off to have quilted and Liz has once again excelled again when I picked them up yesterday.

After a slow start this morning, bit of a sleep in, nice laying in bed this morning listening to the rain on the roof. A few domestic duties out the way, got around to cutting the binding strips.

Hopefully if all goes well this afternoon while the boys are watching the Football grand final, I will get around to sewing the binding on.

This Morning while the sun was shining DH decided he would pull out some weeds, when two birds flew pass him and collided straight into one of the back windows, one flew straight off but the other one was winded a bit. DH picked the little one up and put him in the planter box in the sunshine, it took about 15 minutes for him to get his breathe back, during this period his mate sat in the tree and called out.

Thankfully he flew off they kissed and made up and flew off into the sunshine

Sunday afternoon spent the afternoon ,giggling,playing games and dress up

at a Baby Shower

A friend of mine had a post Baby shower

her little man (I and mean little ) came into the world early April he was due mid June

We all had so much fun.......

on leaving each attendee received small gifts

There was a tree surrounded with homemade cookies

in shapes of

all iced in lovely pastel colour icing

I chose the

There was this beatuifull umberella covered with bady bottles filled with candy

Unfotunately not a very clear photo but if you look real hard and close a cute blue pacifier was attached with the ribbon

As a rememberance of the birth and the day we where given a baby to take home

These where made by the grandmother ....... the facial expression is so real life

just as a way of letting you know the size ....

Cauliflower and Bacon Soup

Ingredients

· 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

· 4 bacon rashers, finely chopped

· 1 brown onion, finely chopped

· 2 garlic cloves, crushed

· 6 thyme sprigs

· 750g cauliflower

· 1Litre Vegetable stock

· 300ml pure cream

· Salt and pepper, to season

Method

Heat oil in a large pan. Add bacon, onion, garlic and thyme.

Cook for 5 minutes or until bacon begins to brown.

Cut cauliflower into small florets and thinly slice stalk. Add to bacon with stock and cream. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until cauliflower is tender.

Process soup in a food processor until almost smooth. Return to pan, stir, and season with salt and pepper. Enjoy - Cheers Marc

Long weekend this weekend – Queens Birthday

The Queen's Birthday is held on the second Monday of June in most of Australia. The Queen's Birthday holiday in Western Australia is held on a different date proclaimed by the governor in Western Australia

Many Australians have a day off work on the Queen's Birthday. For many, it is a chance to do something with their family or to attend an event. Or take advantage of the three-day weekend to make trips to visit friends or relatives .

The weather in the Riverland over the weekend was quite cool.
So I Spent most of the time, inside.

Friday night together with a few girlfriends, went to the local theatre and watched.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins

The film tells the story of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a god who is exiled from his homeland of Asgard to Earth. While there, he builds a relationship with scientist Jane Foster ( Natalie Portman). However, Thor must stop his brother Loki who intends to become the new king of Asgard.

Saturday - done the domestic things ....... dusting, washing, ironing, vacuuming blah blah

watched a couple of movies on TV for the night

Sunday was spent doing some quilting - secret quilting for a dear friend so unable to share any photo's at the moment

Today spent time sorting out a couple of cupboards came across some quilts in the back of cupboards.

I had earlier on in the day prepared several meals.

So spent the afternoon watching a couple of DVD's while stitching a few Pies together.

One of the quilts I found at the back of the cupboard was this one...... brought back a few memories.

In the mid 90's I was a member of a local quilt group, together with a few lovely ladies.

At a Christmas Dinner Break up we all brought along a fat quarter and placed in a basket, during the evening we all had the opportunity to pull a fat quarter out off the basket and you where not able to pull your own parcel out (chuckle)

This was the start of a quilt for the following year's challenge within the group

But wait there is more ..............

there was also 2 other baskets

Both baskets had sealed envelopes enclosed

One basket had Shapes and Methods

for example - Circles,Squares,Triangles, Stars, Hearts,Flying Geese,Log Cabin, Dresden Plate etc

The second basket had colours

examples: -

blue, red, green, black purple and colours together with themes like blue with circles or blue with spots or red with black etc

as I was just a learner I was nervous and thought what ?????

My fat quarter was a piece of pink fabric which at the time I thought was the most ugliest fabric.

The rules where you could use as much of this fabric at you like ,but it must be used within in the first block of the quilt

So as this was the first block you could do anything you like, as the next meeting which was to be held the following February ( remember December was the Christmas Dinner Break up )

So I made my centre block 4 dolls in which one of the dolls had the pink fabric.

February meeting - pulled out of the baskets

(2) Blue - oops forgot to mention you did not have to do everything in blue - so long as the choice of colour you pulled out was in the round

For the rest of the year you had to finish your quilt for Show and Tell at the Christmas Break up Dinner.

Recently I had a need to go to Adelaide, so what else is a girl to do while there, but visit Hettie’s I purchased some nice fabrics suitable for a Boys Quilt

Spent this afternoon making a quilt from

Anni Downs... Hatched and Patched.... A Boys story, the quilt was so quick and easy to put together. I have only made one of the six stars required for the quilt,

A few days ago DS#2 partner, requested a bag so started on a bag from some of the fabrics left over.

Later in the afternoon got a few interruptions from Telemarketing calls, so lost my mojo in completing the bag, sat down and watched a DVD and made two more pies for my Pie and tart quilt. The rest of the afternoon has gone so fast, better make the move and go start on the evening meal.

Several Days ago myself together with two work colleagues went to the local theatre and watched Convection starring Hillary Swank, Sam Rockwell and Melissa Leo.

Hilary Swank plays the role of a working mother who puts herself through law school in an effort to represent and stand up to the justice system for her brother, who has been wrongfully convicted of murder.

Conviction is based on a true story, showing how a lot of hard work and sheer willpower was able to correct an injustice.

This Friday evening we are off to see ...................... Red Riding Hood

The film Starring Amanda Seyfried, Lukas Haas and Gary Oldman

The information we have be lead to believe is the film is set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf; a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family's displeasure.

Where have the last five days gone

It has been quite awhile since I have been so ~~lazy~~ I mean idle, the last five days went so fast

After getting the basic things out the way

washing, dusting, washing, vacuuming, blah blah

cooked a few meals so I could be ~~lazy~~ I mean organised (chuckle)

Finished the binding on two quilts for my dear grandson

Sent my BOM 2006 quilt to Liz to embellish a few weeks ago

and yes the quilt is back and once again Liz has done a extremely great job

stitch the binding on and hand stitched down on Friday night ( finished about 3.30am Saturday morning)

the photo does not give a very good image off the pattern but it is great

The Easter Bunny this year left this lovely bag full off chocolate eggs.

But due to it being Tuesday I am only able to show you the bag (chuckle)

The day started out with, going to the gym for an hour, I am so unfit, but I had fun.... see if I say that tomorrow when I am aching all over.

Got to work early to get some work done before, the customer enquiries and phone call started. plus mid morning had a meeting to attend on dealing with aggressive clients.

By the end of the day I was feeling a bit aggressive........... my balancing of figure getting ready for the monthly BAS just did not want to work for me. So I arrived home a bit down............ but things changed as

DH have gone and got the mail and there was on the kitchen table a parcel for me........

Recently Maree had a give away on he blog and yes you guess it I was the lucky recipient of a lovely gift

Be awhile

Where does the time go ................... last Saturday took a quick visit to Loxton and drop off my BOM 2006 Quilt for Liz to create magic on.
She is hoping to get it finished within the next cuple of weeks.
So far this week the days have gone so fast been very busy at work.
One of my work colleague lent my some books to read last Friday (6) so each night I have been reading, so far I have finished 4 of the books these books are - A collection of Amish Romance and Women of Faith stories. I am enjoying the time each evening reading before going to bed , so hence very little needlework is being done (chuckle)

Had a few days off this week, so head down I was determine to finish the BOM 2006.

Yes I have finished the stitching part, currently on the bed in the spare room, will send off to be quilted within the next few days.

This afternoon spent some time in my quilt room sorting out a few boxes, I shoved in the cupboards when we moved in over 12 months ago and yes found another BOM Pies and Tarts I purchased during the demolition and rebuilding of our home, (12 months ago where has the time gone) , I put the TV on in the quilt room the midday movie a HART TO HART movie was on in the background while I started cutting out a few pies to hand paper piece of a evening.

Men go figure

Bit of adventure in the day............ up early this morning, worked on another quilt for my dear grandson, then had morning tea with the ~~out laws~~ oops in laws.
Had some old bread. so broke up the bread into smaller pieces and placed in a bowl outside the kitchen door, within 10 minutes had over 30 birds pecking at the bread, unfortunately every time I would try to get a good photo, they would fly away , so below is not the best photo shot, as I had to take a photo through the glass door.

Then later in the day, DH and DS#2 decided to take the boat out for a run up river, and at the last minute also decided to put a couple of nets in to catch some yabbies.

DH does not have the best of reactions when he comes across a red back spider........usually you hear, dear to you have a moment, in a tone which sounds like he has had a accident or cut himself. So guess who has to come to the rescue and remove the spider.

But not today, I am inside making a food hamper for them to take on their boat trip,

when in a very casual voice, I hear .............. Darling have you got a minute just what to show you something I have come across in the shed.

Well I am beside myself, heart rate tripled it's beat..... hopping jumping and carrying on..................

Got a bit side tracked, the last few days, on my BOM 2006

Sat up last night and hand stitched around four Dresden plates so, I could start the first round on the quilt.

Spent this morning, catching with a couple of friends, done some shopping, thought I would like to start making a quilt for my grandson , from Anni Downs

But unfortunately ......as we do not have a quilt shop, my closes store is in Adelaide, so hoping within the next few days take a trip to Adelaide and visit Hetties and get some fabric.
Spent most of the afternoon putting the first round on the BOM 2006

Now the evening meal, floor swept, dishes done, blah blah.................. off the watch My kitchen Rules and City Homicide and if all goes to plan, finish some more Dresden plates so I can do another round later in the week or over the weekend (chuckle)

Great Evening

Last night was Son Number 2, partners birthday, so a bit of a family tradition, to have a evening meal together, but like all families sometimes that is not so, DH brought Chinese home, DS#2 and partner had unfortunately double book the evening as there had an appointment with the photographer for there wedding NEXT year. The highlight of the evening was a visit from my 3 week old grandson.
Who sleep the whole night. ................(but I did not care)

After the family departed I ventured into my quilt room and put a couple of DVD's on and proceeded to put the middle part of my 2006 BOM together

Could not sleep last night ..............whats new ?............... so sat up for awhile and watched a couple of DVD's (1) Red Eye ............... not to bad (2) Malice......... nice murder mystery. While these where playing , finished the hand stitching required on the next block of the 2006 BOM.
The Midday movie it about to start ..........a golden oldie Columbo .........will start on the middle part of the quilt, lucky to have a small TV in my quilting room. I like having background sounds (chuckle)

Morning Glory

Couple of girlfriends and I went to see Morning Glory over the weekend........ A light hearted comedy starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Jeff Goldblum .the film is a charming workplace comedy based on a morning TV news show. We shared a few giggles.

Spent most of Sunday cutting out the next round of my 2006 BOM quilt 240 pieces 2” in size

Then yesterday joint then together to make 12 desden plate. Will put them aside to hand stitch around the outside and place circles in the middle........bit of hand stitching for the nights.

Plan to start the next block, later today, as I spent this morning, baking ........ made a cheese cake, some homemade pasties and a beef curry pie topped with potatoes and cheese.

Unfortinately up at 5am this morning the neighbours dog had a very rare barking session, something must have upset him,as normally the dog is so quiet.

Finished my Ohio Stars, now onto the next round - need to cut out 240 - 2" fan pieces to make 12 dresden blocks.

The weather at the moment is reasonably hot.............so spent most of yesterday (Sunday) inside.

Did not sleep to well last night .......... so up early this morning, got the basic housework, you know bit of dusting, washing blah blah, them knuckled down and started the next Part of the 2006 Block of the month.
Hope to by the end to today have 16 Ohio stars completed.

A co-worker and my self went to the local theatre last night and saw the film "The Tourist" the actors Johnny Depp and Angelina Joile. Not to bad - bit of light humor though out the film.
I like to have a DVD playing in the background while I in the quilting room, so this morning I had a oldie on
"Lady Hawke" followed by "The Pelican Brief" .................. going to have a break with DH ( better give him a bit of attention), then back to my Ohio stars.

Well finally after 3 visits to and from Adelaide over the past 7 days DH and myself are Grandparents for the first time.

Saturday Morning a healthy boy, 3 weeks early but all is well, DH anf myself drove down and brought, DS#2 and DIL and of course the grandson back to the Riverland, all safe and sound on Monday.

I still have no news to share with you on the baby home front. The last few days I have been on leave from work and potting around in the quilt room. Found a block of the month I received in 2006 (yes 2006)
I am sure I am not the only one out there with a few ~~un finished~~ oops not started but found in a safe place. (chuckle) projects

DH has just served our evening meal ----------shock, while I have been stitching away he has so thoughtfully cooked Dinner ............. Stuffed mushrooms. Back soon

I am back, wow the mushrooms where great......... dishes done.

Now show and tell on part one of the block of the month (2006)

Off to do some more button hole stitch while watching New Tricks and Kidnap and Ransom on ABC

confused and lack off communication

Well the past few days have be a bit topsy turvey for (via Air ambulance) with contractions, DH and I drove down several hours later after organising work, animals and contacting DS place of employment, on arriving at the hospital, I have never been meet with some poor staff communication and such appalling manner from the nurses. wow it is so hard to believe there are so many heartless people in the world.
After two days in the city we where advice to go home, as they have no intentions of delivering the baby until she reached at least 38 weeks. So DS DH and myself drive home 250 kms.
Then DS gets an Urgent call Sunday night from the Hospital, Juniors on the way, please get here ASAP, so we head of the Adelaide again leaving within 15 minutes of the phone call, arrive at the hospital by 12.30 am. greeted by a midway lovely lady, as she was leaving for the end of her shift she congrats on the upcoming birth on our first grandchild, we where left in a family room adjoining the birthing room, I went in regularly, each time getting more excited with the up coming birth, then at 6.00 am. A nurse gave us the news, after we explain we where from the country, she said " Well I have no idea what you are here for, your DIL is just having bad cramps so just pop home and someone will ring if she goes into labour," We explained to her that we had a phone call from the hospital, as she was in labour and we have travelled down from the country, approx 2.5 to 3 hours drive depending on the traffic, her response was, That's not my problem, go home as she is just having severe cramps that are like contractions, I find it hard to believe that anyone from the hospital would have rung you, now run along.
So totally exhausted and tired DH and I sleep in the car on the side of the road for a few hours, before calling in to my Aunts place for a nap before heading home. So still waiting for the next call from the hospital for the next stage.
In summary we as a country town think we are hard done, but our hospital, service, communication,and support just out shines this large city hospital by miles.

The heat and the mozzie

The past few days in the Riverland have been reasonably hot, but that’s not the only thing that has been causing people to stay indoors, the mosquito's ~~parasite~~ has been a pain, the local stores have had a rush of mozzie coils and Citronella candles. I started off with 6 candles and coils (coils have been working a bit better than the candles) now down to two candles, on the outdoor setting. Went for a drive this morning to the local stores tried 5 different store but unfortunately the coils where not available. Until Wednesday. So I have been unable to do any gardening the last few days. Well that’s my excuse (HA HA).

Still where there a negative - there is a positive.

DH and myself are going to be Grandparents for the first time in approx 8 weeks.

Spent the day making a couple of cot quilts this is the first one, will post the second one next post

Going to make DH a cuppa and I will have my cup of hot water, yes hot water, It has been two years since I have had a coffee or tea, and yes I do miss it, but when you are told that you have some sort of reaction to something in coffee, tea, chocolate and black liquorice. I know sounds strange, but so far I have not had a case of chest pains I had 2 years ago. Then sit down and watch The Mentalist and sew the binding down on the cot quilt.

Had a beastly day today............But all got a lot better when I got home DH had collected the mail and there was a box waiting for me .

I received a wonderful collection of presents fromVanessa, my swap partner in On My Verandas Christmas swap.

Firstly, this gorgeous soft toy, so beautifully sewn and in such lovely fabrics:

Followed by a charm pack in the most fab choice of colours such a bliss (chuckle)

And the most beautiful handmade bag in such divine fabric must email Vanessa and ask the fabric range

what a great day

Today DH and myself put the christmas tree up together.

We giggled and carried on like newlyweds .

Life sometimes goes full circle

we have been married for 31 years, the first few years DH and myself put the tree up together, then our two beautiful sons took on the role.

But this year is the first year that we do not have either sons living at home.

So together with DH we pulled the boxes and crates out of storage and together put the tree up.

But wait where has that star for the top of the tree gone................... missing ?????

So together we drove into town and purchased a new star.

OOPS ???? not a good day for a quick shop...... people and yes more people ...... where did they all come from

The season to be jolly seems to bring people out in the crowds.

after some push and shove we finally got home and together placed a new star on the tree.

now off to get a light meal and do some stitching before Spooks starts on ABC this evening

Hello to the fellow bloggers who have joint in chookyblue Cross stitch Saturday,

Thought I would start with a bit of history (chuckle) A few years ago, a friend of my mothers, introduced me to cross stitch, unfortunately my first attempts, I am unable to share with you,

These items where bookmarks (given to school friends and teachers), Christmas decorations for family Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, neighbours and friends.

Then boys came along and my days of needlework didn’t seem to be so cool.

Then after marriage, I together with six other lovely ladies would meet once a fortnight .Where we would chat, exchanged patterns, drink hot chocolate during the winter and share fresh lemonade during the warmer evenings, contribute our opinions on current issues and solve the problems of the world while exchanging lots of giggles and tears, regrettably over a period of time, like I am sure happens everywhere things change in our life, someone gets a transfer with their job, financial situations change, poor health( you know what I mean).

Well next thing you know you are having a family yourself, I did a lot of cross stitch, on towels, blankets, bibs and grow suits. Then during the early years of my children, I got involved in CAFHS, Nursing mothers, Kindagym. Kindergarten, preschool and primary school fund raising activities, cross stitch and smocking and yes once again no show and tell. During the period of MUMS TAXI days transporting the boys to and from their sports, I once again, got back into cross – stitching, draw thread work, hardanger and quilting.

A busy weekend

Saturday started early, up at 5.30am for a 6.30 am departure to Adelaide for the yearly Quilt and Craft show at the Wayville Show Grounds in Adelaide, on the way across the bridge at Blanchetown a Hot Air Balloon was spotted, as DH and myself got closer, the balloon was descending in a field.

DH made good time, as there was little road works in progress this trip, therefore DH left me at the Quilt and Craft Fair gates at 9.15am,as the doors where not scheduled for opening until 10.00am . While waiting I had the opportunity to chat with several lovely ladies, that had travelled a bit further than myself, One lovely lady was from Kangaroo Island and another from NSW, both in Adelaide for the weekend

Once again a several minutes before the opening, a few of the exhibitors and organisers had a dance along. It was nice to see some of the ladies in the crowd participate.

Surprise, surprise this year is the first year , since attending the Quilt and Craft Fair over the years that I didn't leave excited. The highlight of the day was spending time with an school friend and during the lunch break sharing a table with a lovely group on ladies to whom have different interest's than myself , cardmaking , beading and scrapbooking. My only purchases at the Fair was two patterns. Rosalie Quinlan Design - Sweet Matryosha sewing kit. and Kids Quilt Traffic Jam.

As I left the quilt show earlier than I would usually do, when attending the fair, I headed for Hettie's to have a browse and while there caught up with the lovely Leanne who gave me her professional advice and talent on picking fabrics for a baby quilt.

Then DH and myself carried on further down the road to Bunnings where pots, plants and potting mix was purchased, before proceeding home.

Once home spent the evening finishing my last two items for the Christmas Swap, organised by Maree a little sneak peek

Started reading a book on my way down in the morning and the plot and story line had me wrapped in so hence I needed to finished the last few chapters before going to bed.

Well today started early again....... the next door neighbours dog was having a moment,most probably chasing cats.

So cooked DH breakfast, egg and bacon with fresh squeezed orange juice and hot coffee, did warn him this was not going to be a regular practice (chuckle)

I did have an ulterior motive, need some help in lifting the pots and bags of potting mix, together with DH we potted up the plants and placed them down the side fence where the veranda and outdoor setting in located.

Five pots in total .................. I need to clarify (shed light on) I did not have to twist DH hand it was his suggestion to get the plants and pots done.

Done some of those ~~boring~~ need to do things, washing, dusting blah blah.......

Spent the afternoon putting a layer cake together

Will need to finshed next weekend as this week it going to be a bit hetic at work.

Now off to do the ironing............ then watch a DVD Law abiding Citizen and start another book

Back to needle and thread

Called into a friends place earlier on this week, and she grows beautiful orchid. I brought this lovely flower home. The ~~picture~~ photo doesn't bring the true colours out.

It is just divine.

First time last night, for I don't know how long I had needle and thread in hand amazing feeling.

This is one of many I need to finish.

Found so many while unpacking last weekend.

This weekend in South Australia is a long weekend. I am going to try and finish the last 12 butterflies over the next few days and put the border on.

That's my aim for this weekend.

A mess A BIG MESS

Hi I am having so much ~~fun~~ well at the moment my feet as a bit sore from standing on , for most of the day, up at 6 am this morning to start on the boxes that have been in storage since last June 2009, went to the library quickly to get some books, then a quick cuppa with the ~~outlaws~~ oops mean the in laws, then back to the unpacking. I have so much to sort out, so thought I would take a break and do a blog post
Quite awhile ago I remember reading a blog where someone (I know someone sounds so rude) has an interest in iron on transfers I have found some in one of my boxes. I not sure if they will work any more but If someone (sorry) would like to have them please email me your address details and I will post them to you,

also I have so many beads, if again sorry for the rudeness if someone would like these beads please email and I will send them to you ( not the toes) and now I back to trying to see the top of my table (chuckle), I have a TV in my quilt room, So I will be watching New Tricks and The Bill while soaking the feet .

Yes finally my furniture for the quilt room has arrived, Friday at 1pm a much awaited furniture delivery truck pulled and un loaded 4 well wrapped pieces of furniture. After several hours of unwrapping about 7.oopm last night all was unwrapped and sitting in the room.

Where has this week gone

Wow this week has gone so fast, back to work last Monday after having a few days off, so plenty off paperwork to catch up on.

Spending this evening with DH watching the football Collingwood and Geelong, I am really not fussed who wins just nice to spend the evening with DH and finally after so many months, I am doing some needlework,

yes needlework.

My furniture for the Quilting room was suppose to arrival today, just my luck after waiting for nearly 6 months to get some furniture for the bare room, being told it will be delivered today, then receiving a phone call yesterday afternoon for the delivery company, not delivering in the Riverland area this week due to not having enough deliveries in the area.

Well there is always next week (chuckle)

Spent a few hours this afternoon, sorting a few boxes of quilts in them, that have been in storage for over 12 months, needed some airing out. getting a bit restless, now I have ordered the furniture for the room, really would like to be moving in. I had the day of from work today, well paid work anyway, Don't know how I get time to go to work, spend the morning washing quilts, unfortunately as my quilting supplies are still in storage until the furniture arrives, and as this region has had so much rain recently, some of my quilts in storage (in the shed) have had some water damage, and several of the quilts have stains on there are a result on the rain, The stains have after washing lightened off a bit.

Needed to go into town, and I was in the right place at the right time.

remember I mentioned in my last post I would like another suit case. WELL I needed to call into work and drop off an assignment that needed to be sent today. So on the off chance I called into the same second hand shop I was in yesterday and wow this was sitting there

Well as you can see, still nothing happen in my quilting room. Last Friday was another day in Adelaide, with my Justice Studies Course. The weather was unbelievable , rain rain and yes more rain, the lecturer finished earlier than scheduled, so together with two other girls we went furniture shopping, and finally I found a few pieces to put in my room.

The furniture will not be available for several weeks , as you see the room is EMPTY.

feeling a bit sorry so I thought I might put something in the room (chuckle).

Would not mind having a least one more of these lovely old cases.

Had the afternoon off from work today, so had a look in some second hand shops didn't pick up any old suitcases but did found this little beauty.

A hat box the picture doesn't do it justice it is a lovely deep heritage green in colour and in great condition, I asked the lady in the store if she had any history on the hat box, she said the hat box and a few antique pieces on linen where at the back door when she got to work this morning, how lucky was I this lovely hat box only got in the store this morning.

Well got to go back to work, study night with two others.

cold weather

Cold, wet and windy today, nice day to be sitting inside, reading, sewing or watching a DVD,

Maybe in a few months time, been busy the past few weeks with the End of the financial year paperwork at work and earlier on this year went back to do some studies , it has been so long time since I have had to present assignments, but I am enjoying the challenge, only problem is I have not found a great deal of extra time to do any needlework , quilting or blogging, it is nearly 18 months since I have touched any quilting or needlework.

I am going to Adelaide in the next few weeks to hopefully find some furniture to put in my quilting room. the room is so empty . Blank canvas, Still it has only been four months since we moved in , I don't what to hurry things,(chuckle).

When I get my quilting supplies out of storage it will feel a bit like Christmas.

Well it certainly has been awhile, finally after 8 months DH and myself starting moving in to our new home last Saturday, wow do I have so much to unpack, amazing over the last 8 months we where lucky enough to live in a granny flat adjoining DH parents, the Unit was not much bigger than a large camper home, amazing how when you do not have the room to store very much that you are able to survive on so little. one most important item I certainly missed was being able to have access to any quilting . Bernie (my sewing machine)fabric and quilting accessories where all in storage. and access to a computer to keep up with my fellow bloggers this unfortunately did not happen very regular.

The journey started 8 months ago with a massive clean up and out, we spent approx 6 weeks stripping the old home of anything salvageable then in July 2009 had a massive combined garage and demolition sale hundreds of people dropped in for a bargain.

August 2009 the house was bulldozed down and the journey really got started.

September the pad was levelled then left for approx 4 weeks before further work began.

Then to come home one night in late September to find the concrete had been poured this was exciting

Over the next few weeks I mean months the frame work appeared

And last Friday night DH and myself had hand over for the keys and the next journey together in our new home on the old homestead site......

Finally would like to add the the journey over the past few months has been - expressed with blood- sweat- tears- anxiety- frustration- uncertaintiy- laughter-

would I do it all again' sure because I know a little bit more now than I did 8 months ago (chuckle)

Wow is has been awhile ...........first of all belated greetings to all and hope the Year 2010 brings
health wealth and happiness.
Nothing much has been happening in the world of patchwork/needlework, I have been plodding along slowly on a few stitcheries and reading a lot.
On the new home front ..........Contractors have had several weeks off over the Christmas and New Year period. The 2ND fix contractor was on the home front this morning as I left to venture out into another hot day here in sunny Riverland approx temp is about 44 degrees Celsius (other words pretty hot) still one is not to complain I do work in a air- conditioned office.

Has been awhile ..........I have missed my fellow bloggers........the weather has been so up and down over the past few weeks ..........only 2 weeks ago it was so hot it seemed to that everything was melting the temperature got to approx 45 degrees Celsiuses and now it is in the mid 20's.............We have over the past week had strong winds that have cause damage to a few properties and vineyards........the adjoining town to my home town has seen the blunt of these strong winds causing damage to roofs, fencing and in some areas blown the rows of grapes on the vineyards out of the ground..... wish I could post some of the photos...........
I have as from previous post been living with DH parents while the house is being build........
I have been spending time reading books by Clare O,Donohue (A someday Quilts Mystery) and Janet Evanovich ( The Stephanie Plum Series) also doing some stitcheries..............
On the home front.............the house in the past 4 weeks has had the frame work up, windows put in the brickwork and roof on .... hopefully today the gyprock will be delivered ready for installation before Christmas ..................then anything between 2 to 6 weeks break as supplies and warehouses close for the festival season therefore contractors take holidays.........if all goes well DH and myself may move it about March next year. Once again unable to post photos but once we are back in the house ..........I have so much show and tell ....Until next post take care

On the Home Front

Once again it has been awhile since my last post, unfortunately I do not have regular access to a computer. On the home front I am the proud owner at the moment of a block of dirt, things are not moving all that fast, DH and I have in the last few weeks ...........picked out paint, doors, windows, stove, oven, rangehood, floor tiles, wall tiles, light fittings blah blah............ I have really be enjoying the process...............but remember it is early days yet (lol).
The weekend last was the first weekend that dear husband and I had off together in the last 4 months (as per last post we both have been either sorting, cleaning, storing, etc) so what does a girl do........... visit the local quilt shop.............which is closing down on the 25th of this month....bargains galore.........but you would never guess just got......... into the spending spree when a urgent phone from one of the darling sons cut the visit short so no purchases where made.

I wish to thank Maree for organising a birthday swap some months ago it was so nice to receive surprise parcels in the mail from nice lovely fellow bloggers ---- thank you all so much , I am unable to post any photos of the lovely fat quarters I received as this computer I am using today does not have access to a programme to download for show and tell. SO A BIG THANK TO ALL YOU LOVELY LADIES.

I has been awhile

I know it has been awhile since the last post............things have been happening the last few weeks/ months

I have been sorting, cleaning,storing every single item in our home.............I did not realise how much I have collected and stored over the last 28 years.DH and myself have for the last 6 weeks been living with DH parents( my in laws) and will be there for the next 6 months while the new home is being built.
We have a massive combined Demolish and garage sale several weeks ago with close to ....lost count really of how many where there on the day.
It was amazing everything has gone ....... the past 2 weekends together with DH and the in laws we have been so busy cleaning up the site . Ready for the demolishing contractor to arrive
and guess what he arrived on Monday 24th August and I am now the proud owner of a block of sandl............
Hopefully by early September the nice pile of sand will turn into a house pad ??????????
This weekend will be the first weekend in the last 4 months ....I will only have to think about the washing ironing and finally some needlework.

Unfortunately one of the things I have had to sacrifice apart from my sewing machine ...........is regular facility to post and show photos of the progress............. I am regularly thinking of all my fellow blog mates.............so if you had not heard or had an comment recently from me beleive me when I say my thoughts have been with you all ( see no photos)

After a some what busy day at work and currently suffering for cold and flu symptoms ,

Mess is getting bigger

My surrounding's at the moment are getting messy (chuckle)........Under my verandah at the moment looks like a mini cyclone has been through.I have got a couple of trestles under the verandah ...... been putting things for the up coming garage come demolition sale below is a couple of photos of some of the gear . so much inside, curtains and tracks, bathroom, built in cupboards, doors

DH is going to start on the removal of plants/shrubs in the garden this weekend

unfortunately all my lovely garden needs to be pulled up and removed to make room for the

bull dozer to come in and push the old home down.

Also DH if time and weather permits him this weekend the pavers need to be pulled up

also to allow the machinery to get in for soil testing etc

as you can see a nice amount of pavers .......supposed I will have to supervise ..... as you can see there are quite a few pavers to be pulled up ready the garage sale.

Once again not to much happening with the quilting in my life at the moment below I have my selection of hand work ready for the nights and weekends, during the period of the new home being built .............if all goes well I should have lots of show and tell in the future

Starting to get things ready for the combined Garage come Demolition sale in a few weeks,not much has been happening in the world of stitching/quilting in my life at the moment.thought I would share a few photos before it gets sold or thrown out
this use to hold my collection of gravy boats

Part of my kitchen which as you can see I am no photographer extends around the corner into another area which has more cupboards, drawers and space for fridge freezer and stove.

All cleared out ............amazing......the items (plates, dinner sets, bowls) I found in the back of these cupboards

Bit dark but this beautiful set of bookshelves was full of all sorts of books

all now sorted , some given to local charities, library and the rest in storage

It has been awhile since my last post...........still living in the old home..........things are not moving all that fast... waiting on some paperwork another couple of weeks then..........it is all go forward
the last few days I together will DH have been packing up all the items we do not need around us at the moment ready for the big garage and demo sale. I am so amazed at the things I together with the rest of the family have collected and kept in the home over the last 28 years.
I have slowly the last few weekends and most evening and mornings during the working days before and after work sorted and packed.
We have so much to be done before the contractors come in and bulldozer the old home down,
we have windows, pavers, hills clothes line, full kitchen, air conditioning, bath and hand bowl,
built in cupboards, floor boards,doors, carpets (the list goes on ) to be removed before the bull dozer can do it's bit.........still look on the bright side, things are getting cleaned and sorted (chuckle).
Last week sent my PIF gifts of to 3 lovely ladies, and just finishing of my Christmas in July swap..........then unfortunately that will have to be it until next year to get involved with any swaps.............as my quilting room is all packed and stored.
So hoping to spend the next several months finshing off some hand work projects ready for when my sewing machine (bernice)is unwrapped from storage.

Help wanted

I need a little help .... as per last post my life and house it a little up side down at the moment,

I have been busy finishing off my PIF gifts before, the fabric and sewing machine gets packed in storage.

A while ago I had 3 lovely ladies who became my PIF recipients , I wish to forwarded these off before I pack everything else around me in storage, But I need a bit of help .....

I have on several occasions tried to get to make contact with Oddjborg one of the lovely ladies who responded on the 31st December 2008 to be one of three to receive a PIF gift ......unfortunately I have been unable to get a reply .

I really would appreciate some help so I get forward the parcel .

Now back to filling up more storage boxes.........didn't quite realise I have so much in the cupboards.........I feel a garage/salvage sale coming up soon.

A new adventure

Be awhile since last post..... not much has been happening in the needlework/quilting part of my life....... DH and I am in the process of demolishing our home for the past 28 years and rebuilding, so lots of things to organise....
So far we have draw up and placed in the hands on a local building the house (home) plans ......
next step more paperwork ..... then we need to move all our personal and keepsakes... we will be moving in with DH parents for approx 12 months...... then DH togethr will family members and friends will help strip the house of all re saleable items from the house ...............air- conditioning, windows, stove, kitchen cupboards, bathroom fittings (shower screen hand bowl bath tap fittings) , outdoor verandah blah blah'''''' and hoping to sell off these reusable items.
Then after that the demo gang will come in and bulldozer the skeleton on the home down and relay a new house pad ready for the builders to started work sounds great but this will take months. Unfortunately during this period the Internet will be disconnected so may not be able to post all that often, but I will take photos and keep you all up to date as much a possible.

This weekend hope to trace of lots of stitcheries as my sewing machine and fabric etc will need to be put into storage until the end of my new adventure. So most nights and weekends I will have the opportunity to do a lot of hand work ?????????
Also this week my YS has moved out .... great timing for him as I have been clearing out the cupboards and he has scored quite a lot of goodies to help towards setting him up in his flat .

Mothers Day here started with DH making breakfast.....I made some Brownies... knowing that during the day ES and Partner will be calling in during the day.

YS works in the hospitality trade so he was a work most of the day .....but before he went I received a lovely big hug and a few DVD's as I enjoy having a DVD (movie) going in the background while quilting.

Spent a couple of hours in my quilt room being creative with some fabric I purchased several months ago at Jane's before ES and partner arrived where we had brownies and hot chocolate together for afternoon tea.

Received a lovely voucher from them to spent in a local garden/gift store.

Show and tell of the progress ...after ES and Partner left could not get my mo jo back to continue.... so spent the evening working on a stitchery from the Inspired Stitches weekend in Adelaide a couple of weekends ago and watched Masterchef.

Bit late but I hope all Mums had a great day .

Hope to get back to the quilt top now???????

Redwork Swap

I have been away for away and Look what I have received in the post from Jillian (no Blog) .....while I was away .... a few months ago I joined Maree's "Redwork Cushion Swap"

Jillian has made this truly magnificent gifts for me....I not only received this fabulous cushion I also received ...some very nice fabric (the girl really knows my likes)

and a delicious card (unfortunately the photo doesn't show the true colours).....

Jillian's workmanship is exceptional....thank you so much for all my wonderful goodies .....

Maree congratulations on running such a wonderful swap.......

DH and I have had a fab week away

but the holiday is over .....reality has hit this morning

spent the day unpacking, washing, ironing blah blah...... now off to catch up with what my fellow bloggers have been up to while I have been away

OOPS..... nearly forgot I sent my Redwork project to Julie so pop over to her blog ..........as I have misplaced (that's my excuse) my photo's and checked out the items I made in the Redwork Cushion Swap

A small description ...........a lap work cushion ...it has two front panels you open up while on your lap and inside pockets to store your scissors, needle etc while working on a stitchery.

Inspired Stitches (went to fast)

Inspired Stitches weekend........I have been looking so forward to this weekend for so long and was not disappointed.

Had a great time and got loads of stitching done.( I think not ) more jaw bone activity than stitching ,What a fabulous weekend......congratulations to Sarah and her helpers for their hard work in putting the weekend together.....the venue was a winner and a bonus to be able to stay on campus .
Saturday morning was a little overwhelming for me…. As I have never attended a workshop/ gathering with so many quilters.
Saturday started with Rosalie introducing the other tutors ....Leanne, Melly and Janelle who took turns in showing us the projects they would be teaching during the course of the weekend. Dinner on Saturday night was well attended, I didn't stay late...... The units on campus where very comfortable - I shared accommodation with some very lovely ladies Marg and Liz from WA (no blogs) and Kris from Adelaide
